Meet our featured athlete for June: Cara! Cara is artistic and always up for a challenge. She likes to do things that scare her because she knows that's where she grows the most. Find out how she trains body and mind with Muay Thai: A combination of fitness, self-defense, and a whole lot of fun.
Q. How did you get into Muay Thai?
A. I have always gravitated to sports focused on the individual rather than the team. Once I started training at Neuroline Muay Thai, I felt I found both. I not only fell in love with Muay Thai, but the freeing and supportive environment created at Neuroline.
Q. Take us into one of your typical training days.
A. Every training day is different, some with 2-3 training sessions a day. Before work I do strength and conditioning, and in the evening my training would include bag work, pad work, sparring, and clinching. No two days are ever the same.
Q. What is your definition of "be your own athlete"?
A. Most people are focused on external based goals: how they look etc.. I have found the only goal needed is finding something you truly love and enjoy doing. No matter what level of athlete you are starting as, when you find a way to actively express your true self, exponential growth will happen naturally inside and out. To me, that is the meaning of being your own athlete.
Q. Can you describe what is going on inside your head right before you get in the ring?
A. To be honest, not much is in my head. I definitely feel extremely nervous, as if I'm looking over the edge of a cliff. I may go over a few combinations, but I focus more on what I'm feeling, and on enjoying the moment before I jump!
Q. What is your favorite move and why?
A. There are so many variations of every move. I have some fancy kicks I definitely enjoy, but my favourite I will have to keep a secret!
